California pet care Organic Pet Digest Interview
Name of your website?

Organic Pet Digest

Your name?

Jeff Quinlan

Your Location (city, etc)

Walnut Creek

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Organic Pet Digest is a complete organic/natural/holistic dog care guide for dog owners, including health and wellness, nutrition, products, gifts, veterinarians, brands, insurance, links and more.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

Organic Pet Digest sprung to life in 2007 with the birth of Taylor, one of the sweetest and most adorable dogs alive. (Can you tell she's ours?) Jeff and Lauren had always been dog lovers and planned to have a dog of their own after they were married. So upon returning home to Northern California from their big day, they decided it was time.

Being very health and environmentally conscious, Jeff and Lauren have “gone natural and organic” for years, regularly visiting the farmers market, shopping at organic and natural stores, exploring naturopathic health care options and doing everything within reason to go easy on the environment.

When Taylor joined the family, they felt it was important to raise her using the same standards towards promoting her health and well being. Since they were unfamiliar with natural and holistic options for dogs, they turned to well-known dog-related organizations and their local veterinarian.

Surprisingly, it was very difficult to find the kind of information they were looking for, let alone all in one place. So after several months with Taylor and loads of painstaking research, Jeff and Lauren founded Organic Pet Digest to share what they had learned and continue to find from only the most reputable resources.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

Organic Pet Digest is our first web site. It was launched in 2007.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

We liked the word "Organic," since it is beginning to encompass all aspects of health and wellness for many people. We used "Digest" because our sites primary focus is reputable content from every aspect of organic/natural/holistic dog care.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

We only focus on organic/natural/holistic dog care.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

Our ultimate goal is to maintain and continue to grow our site into the top natural and holistic dog care site on the internet.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

We have received much early praise, and it has absolultely been worth the time investment. We have several holistic veterinarians asking for affiliation.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

We would market it so more dog owners could learn the benefit of natural and holistic dog care.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes, the host we work with has the capacity.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

It takes MUCH more time than we had expected! Learning HTML has probably been the biggest headache.

What has been your biggest challenge?

HTML! The research and creative part is fun!

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

So far, we haven't done too much to promote the site. We are using word of mouth to create awareness.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

It really hasn't, other than the HTML! (can you tell that the HTML is tough for us?) :)

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

We have been developing content for the site for about one year and the site has been up for about 3 months. We will keep the site up regardless of popularity since the information WILL eventually be adopted by dog owners. It too effective not to!

What is your website address?
